George S. Mickelson Trail

The 109-mile rail trail between Deadwood and Edgemont, with more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. Surface is mainly crushed limestone and most grades stay at or below 4 percent, though the 19-mile climb from Deadwood to Dumont is the longest incline. Daily ($5) and annual ($20) passes are per person; water is not available along the trail and cell coverage is poor. In winter the trail is groomed as part of the Black Hills snowmobile system.
