Belle Fourche
A cattle town founded by Deadwood's own Seth Bullock

Belle Fourche was founded by Deadwood's Seth Bullock and Sol Star as rail lines pushed west. It has served the western cattle trade since the 1880s, recovered from an 1895 fire that took nearly all of downtown, and sits near the geographic center of the United States. Drive time and distance are routing estimates from OSRM; allow extra for season, traffic and road work.
Highlights
- Geographic Center of the Nation Monument: A monument beside the Tri-State Museum marking the town's claim to the center of the country.
- Seth Bullock connection: Bullock and Sol Star, both Deadwood figures, founded the town, which makes it a natural pairing with a Deadwood visit.
Stops along the way
- Tri-State Museum: Museum next to the monument.
- Geographic Center of the Nation Monument: The town's signature photo stop.
